Dr. Gloria
Perry is a residency-trained, board-certified family
medicine physician. Her varied experience in academic
medicine, correctional medicine, emergency medicine and
community health offers her a unique perspective into every
aspect of healthcare and serves her well as the MDOC chief
medical officer.
A
home-grown graduate of Pearl High School, Dr. Perry has
received numerous awards and recognitions. She graduated
summa cum laude from Jackson State University with a
Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. While attending
Jackson State University, Dr. Perry was inducted into the
Alpha Chi National Honor Society, Pi Mu Epsilon National
Mathematics Honor Society, Beta Beta Beta National
Biological Honor Society and Alpha Lambda Delta National
Honor Society. While attending Howard University College of
Medicine, Dr. Perry was the recipient of the Evelyn Henley
Scholarship award and worked as a tutor in human gross
anatomy. Dr. Perry also conducted research at the National
Institutes of Health in Bethesda Maryland during summer
breaks. During her residency training at Howard University
Hospital, Dr. Perry was the recipient of the Outstanding
Family Practice First Year Resident award, a Community
Service Award, Who’s Who Among Young Professionals and
served as the Assistant Chief Resident of Family Practice.
Dr. Perry
has received numerous certificates of appreciation and
recognition including the following: Outstanding Student
Facilitator, University of Mississippi School of Nursing;
Teacher Family Medicine Residents, University of Mississippi
Department of Family Medicine; and Nurse Practitioner
Student Preceptor, Mississippi University for Women Division
of Nursing. Dr. Perry has past certifications in Advanced
Trauma Life Support (ATLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life
Support (PALS). She is currently certified in Basic Life
Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS). Dr.
Perry is featured in the 2006 and 2007 issues of the
Guide to America’s Top Family Doctors. Dr. Perry is
listed in the 2007 Global Directory of Who’s Who. She
was awarded the American Academy of Family Physicians’
Degree of Fellow in 2007.
Dr. Perry
came on board with the Mississippi Department of Corrections
in 2003, when she joined the medical staff of Central
Mississippi Correctional Facility. Her primary
responsibility is to oversee the provision of healthcare
services by our contracted healthcare vendor, Wexford Health
Sources, Inc.
